Microsoft will end support for the XP operating system on April 8, 2014.  At that time, XP computers will continue to work, however Microsoft will no longer release security updates, operating system fixes or offer support.This means that XP computers will be more vulnerable to virus attacks.Below are four options you have regarding XP computers.
Option #1 – Continue to work from XP computers
  • Be cautious with Internet browsing and opening email attachments
  • Newer software programs will not be tested on XP and will not be guaranteed to work
  • These computers will no longer be supported under compliance regulations
Option #2 – Upgrade the operating system
  • Purchase a Windows 7 or Windows 8 license and upgrade the XP operating system
  • NOTE – this option is not recommended because this can result in performance issues
Option #3 – Buy a new computer
  • Purchase a new computer with a Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system
Option #4 – Explore non-traditional computer options
  • These are options such as iPads, tablet PCs and other network and Internet access devices
